Celebrate with us!
Mexico will commemorate two momentous events during the Fall of 2010: the 200th anniversary of the Mexican Independence and the 100th anniversary of the Mexican Revolution.
Both of these experiences were fundamental in shaping the history of the country. Mexico’s neighbors around the world -including Arkansas- have acknowledged the importance of the occasion and are joining the celebration. The Mexican Consulate in Little Rock has partnered with the University of Arkansas at Little Rock and the cities of Little Rock, North Little Rock and the Clinton Foundation to coordinate a wide range of educational and cultural events that will be both enlightening and entertaining to everybody in Arkansas.
This website is designed to link you to information about the Mexico 2010 celebrations in Arkansas and to provide context about the importance of the historic events that shaped Mexico. You will find a List of Events that keeps you up to date with the festivals, guest lectures, art exhibits, and dance performances among other programs. Here you will also find links to local museums and cultural centers for the specific details of their participation. Also, a special link for Educators includes a schedule of workshop opportunities for continuing education credit, curriculum guidelines, and websites designed to involve children’s participation in the celebrations.
The link to the official Mexican Bicentennial/ Centennial website offers a glimpse into the richness of Mexican history through video clips and photographs as well as through the reproduction of historic documents. The Bicentennial/Centennial site includes information on events at historic sites in Mexico, the routes followed by historical figures, and the Mexican government’s effort to prepare these venues for visitors.
